satan, the fallen angel, is still falling, I read. in terms of modern physics it would be a description of matter and light drwan into a black hole... the black hole being the bottomless abyss, light emissions symbolizing the eternal fall
satan was god's predilected angel... but then he got to haughty and raise in rebellion... theefore he was ouszd an thrown into the bottomless abyss ) talmudic traditions have it, that the true reason for satan's fall was his denial to worship adam, as god ordered all angels to do... satan only wanted to worship god, not a mortal creature made of mud and water... for this rebellion he was damned - muslim tradition took this motif as well. ... religious thought is one of the keys to understand modern 'scientific' thinking plus its prejudices... I always was fascinated by religious myths and legends and their own ideological history. the legend of the proud angel, only true believer and therefore rebel against god, is very interesting.
I think the moral teaching is: do not be dogmaric in your faith... to worship god first you have to worship man (fundamental of all humanism)... or you will become satan ... but tell this to the fundamentalists of all religions... to hamas, to the jewish rightwingers and orthodoxs, to the christian revivalists, to the pope. ... another deduction from the legend would be: all religions are satanic - as all religious congregations:satan's way to prevent direct contact with god
